Hill-walking in the West Highlands

Week-long private guided holiday featuring a mix of hill-walks in one of the most beautiful corners of the Highlands of Scotland. The week is based in Oban, close to Glen Coe and the Nevis range.

Hill-walking

This holiday is designed for keen walkers who would like to be introduced to Scottish hill-walking.

The week will be tailored to the needs of the individual group and the weather conditions. Some options are:

  • Ben More (966m) on the Isle of Mull. This is the only Munro on an island other than Skye. Ben More is a splendid mountain with narrow ridges and some scrambling opportunities. The summit lies at the intersection of three craggy ridges.
  • Ben Cruachan (1126m), an excellent mountain with a craggy summit, with the option of walking along the ridge to Stob Diamh.
  • Buachaille Etive Mor (Big shepherd of Etive), at the head of Glen Coe with its two Munros at either end of a long winding ridge. Stob Dearg (1021m) is the classic peak. The other peak is Stob na Broige (956m).
  • Ben Nevis (1344m), the highest mountain in Britain. We will walk off the beaten mountain path to the summit.

Glen Coe, the Nevis range and the area around Tyndrum and Bridge of Orchy, offer many mountains that are a challenge and a test of your hill-walking skills.

Our aim for the week is to have you thoroughly exhausted and very pleased with yourself.

Am I fit enough?

If you are fit and used to walk up hill, off track on rough ground, the answer is probably yes. Every day we will walk for 8 hours with on most days more than 3500 ft (1000m) ascent.
You will have to cope with rough going on ground that is sometimes steep, wet or broken because the West Highlands and Islands are like that, and their greatest rewards often go to those who are prepared to step away from the beaten tracks. If you're still not sure whether or not you can cope after you've read this, please get in touch to discuss it further.

Accommodation

You will be based in a B&B or guest house in Oban for the week. You can rely on the quality of the accommodation that we find for you - its comfort, its food and the welcoming nature of those who run it. If you have particular requirements, please let us know so that we can do our best to meet them.
Details of where you will be staying will be sent to you well in advance of your holiday.
